Whiteman Air Force Base is located in west-central Missouri, 70 miles outside of Kansas City, MO. Lieutentant Whiteman was one of the first American airmen killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 when his fighter aircraft was struck down during take off at Bellows Air Field. Throughout the 20th century, Whiteman AFB saw many tentants come and go but is currently headquarters to the 509th Bomb Wing division, operator of the B-2 Spirit Bomber that has seen four war campaigns since its first debut to the base in 1993.
