Fort Leonard Wood, in the beautiful south central Missouri Ozarks, covers more than 62,911 acres, of which, 53,995 is used for training. The Fort Leonard Wood is located in Pulaski County, which has a population of nearly 45,000. Fort Leonard Wood was opened in 1940 in the Missouri Ozarks. It’s just a few miles away from I-44 highway, on the St. Louis-side of the state. This is a beautiful area that’s not too far of a drive from the Tennessee and Arkansas state borders. The Fort is home to:
“U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center (MANSCEN) and all chemical, engineer, military police, transportation Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, Sailors and international students from allied nations.”

Bordering the installation to the north are the towns of Waynesville and St. Robert, with an approximate combined population of 6,700. Fort Leonard Wood is two miles south of Interstate 44. St. Louis is a two-hour drive to the east along Interstate 44 and Springfield, Missouri is a little more than an hour’s drive to the west.
